Privacy Policy

Teacher's Pet ("we," "us," or "our") is an internal workflow tool designed for teachers to record classroom notes, track tasks, and receive occasional automated reminder messages. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information.

Teacher's Pet is intended only for educators and staff members who are authorized to use the platform. We do not offer services to the general public.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information from teachers who use the Teacher's Pet system:

Information You Provide

  • Phone number (for internal SMS reminders)
  • Email address
  • Class rosters or parent contact lists that teachers upload or connect via Google Sheets
  • Voice notes or text entries submitted by teachers
  • Any additional information provided while using the tool

Automatically Collected Information

  • Message metadata (timestamps, delivery confirmations)
  • Workflow logs and system activity related to your use of the platform

We do not collect sensitive personal information outside of what teachers voluntarily enter as part of their workflow.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information collected solely for operational and educational purposes, including:

  • Sending internal SMS reminders to teachers (never parents or students)
  • Processing teacher voice notes into summaries
  • Organizing weekly updates that teachers send to parents via email only
  • Supporting internal task tracking and workflow management
  • Improving the reliability and functionality of the Teacher's Pet system

We do not use any information for marketing or promotional purposes.

3. Who Receives Messages

Teacher's Pet sends SMS messages only to teachers and staff members who are authorized users of the platform.

Teacher's Pet does NOT send SMS messages to parents, students, customers, or the general public.

Parents only receive email updates generated by the system.

4. How Teachers Provide Consent

Teachers provide consent to receive SMS reminders when they:

  • Create an account or are onboarded into Teacher's Pet, and/or
  • Submit their phone number for internal communications, and/or
  • Initiate communication with the system (e.g., sending a voice note or message to our designated number)

Opt-Out

Teachers may opt out of SMS reminders at any time by replying:

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing or promotional use.

We may share limited information only with trusted service providers who help us operate the platform (such as messaging providers or transcription tools), and only to the extent necessary to perform our services.

These providers are not permitted to use your information for any other purpose.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or misuse.

While no system is completely secure, we work to safeguard teacher and student data at all times.

7. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as necessary to support the internal educational purposes of Teacher's Pet or to meet legal requirements.

Teachers may request deletion of their data by contacting us at any time.

8. Children's Privacy

Teacher's Pet is used by teachers and staff—not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from students or minors.

Any student information included in rosters or notes is used solely for internal educational purposes at the direction of teachers.

9. Google API Services / Gmail Data

Teacher's Pet allows authorized teachers to connect their own Gmail account so that parent update emails can be sent directly from the teacher's own Gmail account.

When a teacher connects Gmail, Teacher's Pet requests access only to the Gmail permission required to send email on the teacher's behalf after the teacher has explicitly granted authorization.

Teacher's Pet does not read, access, search, analyze, modify, or delete the contents of the teacher's Gmail mailbox.

Google user data obtained through Google APIs is used only to provide the user-facing functionality explicitly requested by the teacher, specifically sending parent update emails from the teacher's connected Gmail account.

Teacher's Pet securely stores encrypted OAuth access and refresh tokens only as necessary to maintain the teacher's authorized Gmail connection. These credentials are never sold, and are never shared except as necessary to operate the service or as required by law.

Teacher's Pet does not use Google user data for advertising, marketing, profiling, analytics unrelated to the application's functionality, or any other secondary purpose.

Teacher's Pet does not use Google Workspace API data or Google user data to develop, improve, or train generalized artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) models.

Teachers may revoke Gmail access at any time through their Google Account settings. Once access is revoked, Teacher's Pet will no longer be able to send emails on the teacher's behalf.

Teacher's Pet's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
